Nick’s Picks, what is this?

I’m a huge fan of TV, probably more so than film, and I feel that while some stories are best left for films, some stories need a bigger canvas to spread their wings.  I really think that today, we are living in a Golden Age of TV programming.  Just look back 15 years ago, and what were the most popular TV shows?  Shows like Seinfeld, The Simpsons and Friends were king, while the shows are good (well, two of those are), to me they are equivalent to a fountain soda at Speedway.  It does it’s job, and satisfies you from the moment you start, till the moment it ends but what do you take away from it?  I’m not trying to say shows like The Simpsons are bad, they are not, but the average viewer can literally pick one up, at anytime and get the same results as if they watched the series from episode 1.  That brings me to “Nick’s Picks” (clever name, I know), this is going to be a written segment for Continuous Play that focus’s on the TV shows I watch on a weekly basis.  Don’t worry, it’s not going to be random episodes of “Family Guy”, “Pawn Stars” or “Phineas and Ferb”, what I’m going to do is share my thoughts on shows I’m invested in.

Investing in a show, is like drinking a glass of good Scotch.  You just can’t jump into a 21 Year Old Single Malt and expect to like it, you have to start slowly and plan on sticking with it.  If you do just “jump in”, you’re going to just dump it out, and go back to something more familiar and safe, like the Fountain Soda shows listed above.  The Walking Dead, is the first show I’m going to undertake, but to speed things up I’m not going to go back and review each episode from the Pilot, up till now.  It would take to long, and by the time I would get to this current season, it will be over and to catch up would cause we to fall behind on the next show I want to review.  What I will do is share some of my thoughts on The Walking Dead (Season 1 to now) is a standalone mini-review.  That way, my thoughts and opinions have a basis when I post my review of “Nebraska” later this week.

As far as the shows I plan on reviewing, I really put some thought into it.  I started the list with about ten shows, but considering overlaps, and time it would be impossible to cover them all.

So, here are my “Nick’s Picks”

The Walking Dead, Season 2.5 (Now – March 18)
Game of Thrones, Season 2 (April 1 – June 3)
True Blood, Season 5 (Mid June – September)
Boardwalk Empire, Season 3 ( September – December)
The Walking Dead, Season 3 (October – ?)

I will also do catch up, mini reviews of the past seasons before each season as well.

So with that said, be sure to check out my mini-review of Seasons 1 – 2 of The Walking Dead, coming later today!
